The former Eldorado Casino in Henderson, Nevada, is due to open its doors to a gambling establishment called The Pass in early April.
The property is in the final stages of a $ 5 million renovation project that includes:
- updated exterior with a new color,
- landscape design,
- new restaurants,
- the bookmaker Circa Sports.
Late last year, Las Vegas developer Joe DeSimone acquired a casino in downtown Henderson from Boyd Gaming. At the time, the company said it decided to sell the property because it had become a "non-core asset" that represents "a very modest part of our common business."
Eldorado Casino was the first property in the Boyd portfolio. The establishment opened in the early 1960s after founder Sam Boyd and his son Bill acquired the former Wheel Casino in Henderson.
Earlier this year, Mr DeSimone said:
Although this property is no longer an important asset to Boyd, it will be a very important asset to me.
The businessman’s gambling business, DeSimone Gaming, also owns the Railroad Pass hotel, casino and tourist center, which is known to be Henderson’s oldest operating gambling establishment.
The former Eldorado Casino has been closed since March 2020 when Nevada lawmakers ordered the closure of all nonessential businesses as part of an extensive package of measures put in place to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
According to a statement released this week by DeSimone Gaming, The Pass is set to open its doors on April 1, subject to regulatory approval from the Nevada State Gaming Commission. The regulator intends to discuss this issue at a scheduled monthly meeting next week.
The Nevada Gambling Control Board has already recommended DeSimone Gaming to obtain the gaming license required to run the facility.
When it opens the doors, The Pass will include over 350 new slot machines that will replace older and rather outdated devices. New establishments include the 24-hour Emelia’s Café, named after Mr DeSimone’s daughter, and an Italian-style fine dining restaurant.
The casino will also feature a new $ 800,000 bookmaker that will be operated by Circa Sports, a sports gambling brand owned by Las Vegas casino owner Derek Stevens.
A shuttle will run between Mr. DeSimone’s two casinos in Henderson. The institution will also participate in the rewards program.
There will be no hotel in The Pass at this time, but this may change in the future. Last month, Mr DeSimone said the addition of a hotel tower is under consideration, depending on what downtown Henderson will need in the future.
